B

Maybe I'm wrong (and I probably am), but I think B is a pretty smart 3 year old.  At least in the ways of the world.  He has a big vocabulary for being so young and understands everything he says...it's always in the right context.

Yesterday, when he dropped a piece of fruit and couldn't find it, he said, "It's a mystery that we need to figure out."  And he woke up from his nap still talking about the mystery fruit and went on a mission to find it.  He succeeded.

My favorite so far...The other day I was helping him put his pants back on after going potty.  (WHY must small children get completely naked to go to the bathroom?)  B started to fall backwards but regained his balance and kind of giggled, shook his head and said, "I did not see that coming."

I still laugh when I think about it, but maybe you had to be there...

Hash tags

WWWHHHYYYYYYY?!?!?!?

Someone PLEASE tell me the point of the hash tag symbol!  I don't understand it.  Why is it SO much fun to put a hash tag with non-spaced words following it??

#DUMBESTTHINGINTHEWORLD

Seriously, I can't.  My head hurts every time I try to read one.  Am I missing something?!?  Because all I know is that I want to pull my eyebrows out EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I see a hash tag.

Which means I have one of two decisions to make:
1. No more Facebook or Instagram.
2. De-friend everyone who does this absurd thing.

However, both of these options leave me friendless and bored.  UGH.

Two Years

Two years ago, today, I started dating someone who turned out to be my husband.  The past two years have been an amazing adventure.  I took a chance on the "nice guy" and I have never been happier or more in love with someone than I am with Hubs!

I have been told that once you are married only wedding anniversaries "count", not all the other ones.  Well, I don't care!  I am so excited and happy that Hubs and I have now been in each others' lives for TWO WHOLE YEARS.  I'm sorry, but this is my longest relationship with a significant other, and I consider it a big deal!  I didn't get all crazy with cards and gifts (Hubs threatened my life), but I just wanted to acknowledge it and brag a little about how blessed I am to have this wonderful man in my life.

We will be celebrating by grilling delicious Omaha Steaks (thank you Aunt Susie!) at home and mostly just being our boring, married couple selves...but I am so excited and can't wait!!

Cheers to two years, Hubs!  You're my favorite!
(Even though you'll never see this because someone is just TOO busy to get on the internet.)

Here are a few pics from the past 2 years:

Our New "Gym"

FINALLY!  I am definitely one of those people who, after getting fully dressed and keys in hand, can never actually make it to the gym.  I like things that are simple and easy.  At-home gym...aka treadmill & P90X...is my version of simple and easy.  I just LOVE the fact that I can watch reality trashy TV and non-matching clothes to work out...and not worry about being judged!

This was not the ideal project for a Sunday afternoon, but a huge thanks to Hubs for putting it together for me!!  Starting this week off on a good note...exercise AND a 4-leaf clover!  Hope everyone else is having a lovely Monday!!

Snack Time

Hungry anyone?  Spotted this at the grocery store the other day and couldn't help but take a picture.  Who does this?!  I guess either someone was REALLY hungry or decided to test out the apples...which I'm guessing weren't very good.

Gross. Gross. Gross.

Photo Books

Ok, most people know that I am obsessed with pictures.  I am obsessed with making memories and capturing them.  Pictures are simply the best. thing. ever.

My problem is the amount of pictures I take...A LOT.  Which makes it nearly impossible to decide which ones to get printed.  Oh, then frame and display them?  Please.  The anxiety.  I can't even think about it.  And this happens after a 3 hour dinner with friends.  Can you imagine me going through almost 1,000 wedding pictures trying to decide which ones should go on display?!  Insanity.

Solution: Photo Books!  A way to display every amazing moment without having to put a picture frame on every surface of your house.  I did mine on Shutterfly, which is where I do all of my photo related stuff.  I love the quality and selection they have on everything!  So, armed with a Christmas gift card and a 50% off promotion they had going on, I finally sat down to make a wedding photo book.

After a grueling week of decision after decision...seriously, why are there 812 different colors/patterns for a page background??...my photo book arrived last week!  IT IS STUNNING.  I love it!

Everyone should make a photo book!  You can completely customize your own or they can generate one for you using all of your pictures.  However, if you go the custom route and you're like me (an anal perfectionist) it can be quite time consuming, but definitely worth it!   I mean, who doesn't love showing their pictures to everyone that walks in the door all of their friends & family!

Why am I always the LAST one to know?!

My new favorite thing right now...the "sock bun"!  I know, I know...EVERYONE but ME already knew about this...which now makes me question my friends' loyalty.

But anywho... I seriously had NEVER heard of this before!!  I just thought that it was some secret sorority thing that I wasn't allowed to know about.  So begrudgingly, I finally accepted my fate that I would never have a "sock bun".  UNTIL...that fateful day on Pinterest (I mean, how did we ever live without this wonderful site?!)!  I watched a tutorial video and immediately was appalled that NO ONE had ever told me about this! Thanks a lot, "friends"!

The "sock bun" is the perfect solution to dirty hair or running late.  And it works with any outfit...casual, dressy or sick & dying (me the past few days).  No matter how dirty my hair is or how ugly I feel (we all have those days!), I immediately feel like I actually have my life together when I roll my hair into one of Hubs' old socks.  The magic of the "sock bun"!

I can't find the video I watched, but here is a really good play-by-play done with pictures.

Even though I'm sure no one actually needs this, since I am literally the last person on earth to discover it.

Eat BR

http://www.eatbr.com/

The website explains all about "Restaurant Week" in Baton Rouge...happening RIGHT NOW.  Hubs and I (along with a few friends) decided to use it as an excuse to not cook and try a restaurant that we had never been to before.

Monday night, we went to Bin77 in Perkins Rowe.  I got VERY adventurous and tried scallops for the first time…pretty good, much better than I was expecting!  But the best part was having an excuse to order 3 courses (which we never do)...watch out, we're gettin' WILD!

There are only a few more nights left of this event, so go to the website and check out the menus.  Don’t be afraid to order all 3 courses and get a little wild!

Sweet Nothings

"She is so nice and she is so pretty."

These are the words that B said to me today as I was walking out the door.  Today was our first day together.  What a sweet little man that I get to start hanging out with everyday.  I couldn't be happier or more excited for this new-(ish) journey.

Girls' Night IN

Last week, while I was laid up and refusing to go out in the rain, I decided I needed a girls' night IN.  I mean, we all know I was not going ANYWHERE in the rain that was forecasted (and occurred) this past weekend.  So, with less than a week's notice, I texted the girls and threw together some stuff for a game night at home.  With it being so last minute, some of the girls already had plans, but it turned out to be a great time anyway!

I decided to make a few little snacks for the girls and they turned out so yummy.  Nothing fancy, but I'm really impressing myself in the kitchen lately!  I made chocolate covered pretzels, white queso, and some baked cauliflower (I'll do a post on that later!).  We devoured almost everything and ended up only playing one game, due to all of the catching-up that we had to do!

It was a great night that I wish happened more often!  Here are a few pics from Saturday night.

End of the Week Update

Soooo, I suck at blogging.  The end.  5 posts in and now I've got nothing.  Great way to start off with a bang, Megan!

For all 8 of you out there that are sweet enough to actually read my blog, here is a quick play-by-play of all the exciting things that happened at the Ferris household this week.

*Sidenote:  Rain + no scheduled engagements = me in pjs most of this week.

Tuesday:
Waited 4 hours for a no-show pest control man = not happy, but on the bright side, pjs all day!

Injured foot and knee from taking a nasty spill on slick concrete while wearing slippers and chasing the dog.  (Yes, this is my life.)  I am fine, just badly bruised...mainly on the side of my foot which makes walking quite painful and comical.

Hubs came home a little early to help me (the newly crippled) make Baked Chicken Parmesan.  AMAZING.  We used this recipe and steamed some fresh asparagus as a side dish.  http://www.skinnytaste.com/2009/04/baked-chicken-parmesan.html

Wednesday:
Hopped from the bed to the couch (because bruises always hurt worse the next day) and stayed there till 4pm.

Changed out of my pjs at 4pm in order to not scare the (rescheduled) pest control man.

A home happy hour visit at 5pm turned into an impromptu friend dinner.  Hubs made some delicious beef-wrapped asparagus and roasted red potatoes.  *That makes THREE nights IN A ROW of new (to us) meals for dinner!  Go us!

Thursday:
First day all week that I put on real clothes and make-up...for a job interview.

Friday:
I got the job and am (once again) a full-time nanny!  So excited to start next week...I miss playing mommy!

HAPPY FRIDAY Y'ALL!!!

Rachel Ray who?

There really must be a first time for everything.  Even me and cooking.

On Sunday, Hubs & I decided to expand our culinary experiences, because we basically just rotate the same 3 or 4 dishes every night for dinner.  Me, being the culinary chef mediocre popcorn-maker that I am, I wasn't exactly excited about the prospect of trying something out of my comfort zone.  (My comfort zone = popcorn, tacos, spaghetti & steamed veggies.)  However, since I am a newlywed (I guess that's the reason) I decided to jump in with both feet and try making one of the many dishes that I have pinned on Pinterest.

So, after a heinous shopping trip on Sunday afternoon (what were we thinking?!) to gather ingredients, I spent the rest of the day relaxing.  I mean, I had to  gear up for my big cooking debut the next night (tonight).

Y'all.  I put on an apron.  I chopped cilantro.  I followed directions to a recipe that required more than two steps.  Hello, my name is Rachel Ray...and my cooking days are over.   Seriously.  I'm exhausted.
But I am extremely proud of myself, because...
1.  I followed through with it.
2.  Mine looked like the pictures, every step of the way!
3.  It turned out FREAKING AWESOME.  Seriously delicious.  (Hubs & I both were both a little worried.)

Here's the recipe I made tonight that everyone should try!  If I can do it then so can your toddler you.

Original Art

One of my very best friends, Beau Moss, is the amazing artist who gave us this painting for Christmas.  Isn't it gorgeous?!  We LOVE it and the way it looks in our kitchen!  Thanks, Beaubie!!

Clutter, Clutter Go Away

Today I decided that all the clutter around my house had to go!  I also decided that I hated the way everything in my house was decorated...typical me.  My main goal was to make everything look fresh and new, which meant just moving things from one place to another.  That's how us not-so-rich folk do it.  Here is one of the many things that found a new home.

So, I LOATHE refrigerator clutter and needed a new solution for displaying a few things that need to be remembered.  We have an awkward amount of kitchen counter space, which is not good, it's AWKWARD...and I wanted it semi-covered up.  I found this board on the floor of the extra bedroom, threw it on a plate/frame stand (from the $1 section at Target) and there you have it!

A NEW Resolution

Perhaps my real New Years resolution should be to do laundry more often...

But on the bright side, since my poor husband has me as a wife, he still had plenty of clothing options to choose from when getting ready this morning.  So, I'm still a good decent wife, right?  I mean, I KNEW shopping occasionally every day was for a good reason...clearly I know myself well enough to know that this would inevitably happen one day. See, Hubs...shopping really IS a good thing!

And YES, I did A LOT of laundry today.  (This is only half!)

A Realistic Resolution

This is the beginning of my 2012 New Year's resolution...to find a NEW hobby and stick with it.
Part 1: "Find a NEW hobby"...Done.  I've named and started this blog.  P.S...naming a blog is much more involved than I thought.  Actually, it's probably just me.  I become unstable when faced with a decision making moment.

Part 2: "Stick with it"...WISH ME LUCK!  As of this very moment, I plan on sharing my life's "adventures" that I experience on a daily basis.  I've never done this before, so stay tuned...I promise that it will, at the very least, be entertaining.  Mostly because it didn't happen to you.

HAPPY 2013 Y'ALL!!
